I have for a long time wanted to make a few big hen baskets, and did so this weekend - made one a good size. I wanted to have one finished for Vissinggaard next weekend and that urged me to get it done. My students are making some smaller ones on the Saturday before the market.
The hen basket is made from a willow called Alba Vitellina, which I only grow for its beautiful orange red colour, it is bushy and too soft for weaving baskets, and it easily gets bends as you weave, which isn´t nice for random weave.
I have s a few pictures of the process, and because of the most beautiful weather we had today - at last, I sat outside and finished it.
I am really content with the result, even though the basket was trying to take over, but I got the shape I wanted with the help of ties and string - my efforts were rewarded.
The shape is there, it just need more weaving.
Snore og strips fjernes / strings and tie wraps are removed.
After quite a few hours I was finished, and the basket is so heavy that I can barely lift it.
En stor og en lille.../A big one and a tiny one....
Sallys frisbee var kommet ind i kurven /Sally´s frisbee had landed inside the basket.
